Humble Beginnings
What began as an after-school lawn mowing business 36 years ago is now a thriving reality. For Scott Prendergast, the idea of owning his own landscaping business began as an ambitious young man in high school in 1989 when he started his first business with a push mower and a wagon. He continued to grow his business, Scotties Lawn and Landscape, until he sold it in 1996. Scott then started Prendergast Landscape Contractors in 1998 with 3 other men, 1 truck, and 2 lawn mowers servicing local residential customers. During these early years of PLC, Scott established his business based on principles like integrity, trust, and hard work that he learned at an early age while growing up and building his first business. As he grew PLC he added more services like residential hardscaping (patios, pools, outdoor kitchens, walkways) and in 2021 PLC acquired Stockel’s Lawn and Landscape, becoming a fully licensed Fertilization Company and gaining 400 new residential customers as part of the acquisition. Scott also began the commercial maintenance division which took the company to a whole new level.
27 years later Prendergast Landscape Contractors, Inc. is one of the largest and most respected landscaping and hardscaping businesses in New Jersey and continues to thrive as a specialist in the trade and is well respected in the local community.
